If you look the budgets, it looks like IDA has a bigger budget and higher salaries than our zoo does. I don't think IDA is objective or dispassionate either. Zookeepers don't do it for money, they do it because of their passion for animals and animal welfare. That's the same reason the people at IDA went into their field too. They just don't see things the same way.

A lot of you are anthropomorphizing animals and trying to tug emotional strings about. I won't do that, but I do know how the people feel. The last time I went to the zoo, I didn't see depressed people. I saw happy kids and families. I didn't see staff that were deluding themselves and abusing animals for profit, I saw people who really love animals, and really know their stuff (many with advanced degrees, some who have worked with elephants in their native lands).

Both sides of the argument have the best interest of animals at heart, but they just disagree about what the "best interest" is.
