Re: “Hot Springs feuding over homeless, duck parking

The City of Hot Springs is generally in opposition of anything that would benefit the residents of Hot Springs. I understand extremely well that the industry that carries our city is tourism and we do need to promote that. However, it's absolutely SHAMEFUL that the city has proven time and time again that it is willing to throw its residents under the bus & that it doesn't care about taking care of those who actually live & work in Hot Springs. KATV just reported that the mayor said that the city has given Safe Haven many other suggestions as places to put the shelter other than the vacant nursing home on Woodfin, however, what they fail to report is that Safe Haven would have to PURCHASE those locations, whereas the empty 24,000sq ft building that Safe Haven wants to use was DONATED for their use and is particularly suited for use in housing people. So the Roberts have other bones to pick with the board of directors-- that doesn't diminish the fact that they are bringing to light an issue & a ridiculously bad decision by the City regarding Safe Haven. I'm fine with the fact that they have ulterior motives about the Board of directors. If it helps get Safe Haven into that facility, so be it.

The people of Hot Springs need this shelter. It is no surprise, then, that the City voted down the easiest way to make it happen.
