Re: “Caterpillar exec pleads for tax break

"[P]leads for tax break" is substantively different from making "remarks [...] on the need for a reduction on the corporate tax rate." "Tax breaks" is a term generally understood to refer to exemptions, credits, special deductions, etc. and the speaker was not asking for tax breaks. Clarity, Max! And I agree, reidsmom.

Re: “Operations? Capital? Both? Neither?

"Tripling the sales tax" is an alarmist mischaracterization of the impact of the proposed tax increases. Yes, they would triple the sales tax collected by the City of Little Rock, but the overall increase, including the state's 6% sales and use tax, is only 13.3%. That's a far cry from "tripling."

Re: “Atheists in Arkansas

Every debate has someone who wants to bring in semantics, & this time that's me. I'd like to reclaim the word "freethinker" for members of all religions or non-religions, denominations, organizations such as this one and organizations opposed to the ideals of the ASF. One can think freely and still believe in a Christian God, or YHWH, or Hindu gods, or spiritual principles that don't fit into a formally established group. Anyone who practices thinking freely can be a freethinker.

Re: “Garland Camper resigns as Pulaski coroner

It's true that coroners don't have to have any medical training to be elected. I learned this when I was elected coroner at Girls State.

Re: “Census: Whites now minority in LR

The comment from bgme79 is the closest to being correct. Anglo-Americans are still the largest ethnic group.
This Wikipedia article may help explain the use of the terms, referring to "minority-majority" states:….

Re: “Little Rock National Airport: A dissent

I'm curious to know more about how Max proposes getting that "readily available federal grant money pouring," and I think most airport directors around the nation would like to know too.
Mathieu's and the Commission's various misuses of funds are reprehensible, if not reason for Mathieu's replacement, but there's some inconsistency in arguing for federal subsidies of airports (which are critical infrastructure) but not for city support of regional economic development efforts (if not supported by the city, how else should our economic development professionals be paid? On commission??).
If I need a beer and a bagel to soften the blow of a $6 parking fee (less than most places downtown)--hey, it's still less than the cost of checking a bag.

Big Christmas thanks to Movies in the Park and Christmas in Little Rock!
