Re: “A quiet Sunday in Dixie: Marriage equality reaches the D-G

Please stop promoting the notion that the entire civil war was fought to preserve slavery. That doesn't even make logical sense. Seriously? Think before you post. Read a book or something. Google or ask someone with some civil war knowledge.

Minorities could look at/honor that flag as a reminder of what their ancestors were freed FROM if that was the case instead of crucifying the heritage of those of us who have DNA in the graves of those who died in that senseless tragedy. Smh.

Re: “As Southern Republicans flee the Confederacy, Arkansas must reckon with R.E. Lee Day

Oh I have an idea, if we cannot celebrate Robert E Lee without offending, then we cannot celebrate Martin Luther King Jr day either! Let's rename all the highways that have been named after Martin Luther King to something that has NO meaning to anyone and let's replace BLACK history month with JUST history month where we celebrate HISTORY and not one race in particular. If there is no attention directed to EITHER race then nobody can holler discrimination!!! I require no special attention being a Caucasian female, born and raised in the south, as was my mother and her parents and their parents. Matter of fact, we have to go back several generations before arriving at anyone who lived north of the Mason-Dixon line, but by default that does not require me to be a bigot, nor is my spirit moved against people of color. The only thing that is an affront to me is trying to remove my basic rights as a law-abiding citizen of the state of Arkansas. Although I've never owned a rebel flag, it is my right to fly one should I choose to do so! I have never really paid a whole lot of attention to MLK or REL day, but I believe either should be my choice, and there was nothing that MLK did for black people that REL didn't at least attempt for white people, so why can he not be as respected? He was fighting for the rights of the people he represented. Though some of those rights (and I use the word "some" loosely) meant owning other people, he was still doing his job as his spirit moved him, just like MLK. Do you think Martin Luther King Jr would be PROUD of ANY of this racial diversity??

The civil war was about rights, not about slavery as some choose to believe and choose to spread this nonsense like it was actual historical fact. Southerners simply do not like to be told what to do. A number of them did not ever own another human being, it was the fact that the Union was trying to tell the south that they were fixing to make laws that would impact their day-to-day life! Please read a history book before posting this ridiculous mess Arkansas Times.
