Re: “Arkansas's ban of the natural painkiller Kratom has left sufferers and former opiate addicts in the lurch

Don't suppose this one person's clinic can be be picketed to draw attention to the hypocrisy?

I started taking Kratom to help with chronic headaches. I also have severe maxillofacial pain that hurts to the point I can't eat and avoid conversation for days. This, too, contributes to headaches. I guess Kratom must have some anti inflammatory properties because this pain just stayed gone for two years while I took Kratom. My migraines also vanished, and they were bad, lasting three days sometimes. Since the ban of Kratom, my migraines and maxillofacial pain have returned. I've been pretty lucky with the migraines in that my doctor prescribed Rizatriptan and thus far that has worked whenever one starts. But on Kratom, I simply did not have them. I don't know why this was the case, but they vanished. The maxillofacial pain has returned and it's so much worse than I remembered. I'm sure that's also due to some majorly stressful situations concerning family at the moment. But now the pain affects both sides of my jaw, still way worse on the left. About 10 years ago I was prescribed opiates to deal with it, but the issue was they provided relief for about 3 to 4 hours, and then the pain returned. I didn't want to be taking opiates every 4 hours! That's nuts and it can't be healthy. I took Kratom, about 1 and a half teaspoons in the morning and I was good for the whole day! I could even skip a day and be good. Matter of fact, there were times during the past couple of years I skipped a week or better. No withdrawal! I thought I didn't hurt because the maxillofacial pain was in a period of remission, but I guess the Kratom just worked that well and the benefits took a little time to wear off.

Second part to this story, my mother has a condition that causes chronic restlessness. If you've ever had restless legs at night and know how miserable it can be and how it prevents sleep, well, she has that all over her body, all day and all night. Opiates are a proven treatment for relieving this, but tolerance build up is an issue. My mother has gone through courses of Hydrocodone, Tramadol, and now Methadone. We've had to be careful because she is prone to abusing her meds due to depression, and also when they aren't relieving the RLS as well as they should because of tolerance. She ran out of her Methadone three days before her refill and was having major anxiety and of course the RLS returned. This was after the ban, but I still had a small amount of Kratom left. I mixed a teaspoon into yogurt for her, and it totally worked for close to 24 hrs. Got her through the wait period. I wish I'd had her try it sooner since it would have been healthier and a better solution considering she does have a tendency to abuse opiates. I think it could have been a great solution for her, but I guess methadone it is. Nice! Thanks, Dr. Screw the Patient I Want Money. What a great service you've done!
