Re: “A child left unprotected

Well written Anne Bonney. I completely agree. My viewpoint as a now older grown woman who was sexually abused child for over a 7 year period...I am much older and wiser, have education and background in law and nursing as well as law enforcement. I see several flaws in the entire events that occurred and yet the flaws will not help those girls ever recover from the damaged which occurred in their childhood. There are so many fixes and loop holes for people like the Harris family, especially when you add politics to the mix. They seem to be untouchable. When I was raped and beaten all those years, there weren't even laws to help us and it was swept under the carpet. If you said was you who were the disobedient child not a parent. Children had no voice back then (1960-70s). We just lived and died through the abuse....Now the whole thing has come 360 and still the same resolution: the child suffers their entire life for what a parent (no matter the context) does to them as a child. I see it every day. Sadly our system now allows reporting of all these awful abuses and children seem to dismantle the system by reporting false events which one leads many to the "crying wolf" to get your own way mentality. It is very hard to sort out actual event from false reports. The Harris case is distressing... if the children were not wanted after the adoption was started, it should have been stopped. To me it sounds as if were a money was the reason for the whole adoption.....I don't know it's such a horrible thing to have happen....Well deserving families are out there to help children in need and more and more are needed every day. One thing I totally hate is the fact that he is hiding behind the cross to cover his dirty deeds. We have a preacher who did that here in town for many years. He extorted money and property from elderly by befriending them when they were vulnerable and he lost his place in the Methodist Church when he was accused of molesting a girl at his christian school. Yet to this day he hides behind the cross and declares himself a christian. That sickens me to death.....Anyway....thanks for your input Anne....the children are the ones who suffer their entire life. I can attest to that myself. Thank YOU!
