Re: “Invitation withdrawn for constituent hoping to attend Tom Cotton 'town hall'

Mountaingirl, I understand that Beth has been involved in dognapping. No wonder Tiny Tom is so frightened.

I understand that Beth Coger is a well-known rabble-rouser who hangs around with a rough crowd in Yell County.

Re: “Monday: Headlines and the open line

And by the way, it's not just born-alive infants in their first 12 months that our "pro life" nation is killing in record numbers. From the May issue of Scientific American (can't get my digital subscription to work tonight):

"The shameful secret is out: Although the number of women who die in childbirth globally has fallen in recent decades, the rates in the U.S. have gone up. Since 1987 maternal mortality has doubled every year. One of the most striking takeaways from examining the data is racial disparity: Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related conditions such as cardiac issues and hemorraghe and to bear the brunt of serious complications as well. That risk is equally shared by all black women regardless of income, education or geographical location. In other words, the factors that typically protect people during pregnancy are not protective for black women."

Of course, as Charlie Pierce reminds us, it is not about race because nothing in America is ever About Race.

Re: “Monday: Headlines and the open line

I will believe that the United States is "pro life" when it ranks better than 53rd among civilized nations in infant mortality.

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/t…

I will believe that Arkansas is "pro life" when it ranks better than 49th in the nation that ranks 53rd.

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/…

Until then, I will believe that being "pro fetus" is an exercise in superstition.

Re: “Supreme Court to take up LGBT discrimination in employment

I don't care what Einstein said, we are about to see that time can run backward.
