Re: “Attorney general announces program to discourage prescription drug abuse

"efforts will be made to measure the impact of the course" Really? Efforts will be made to measure the impact of the course? Another pissin' in the wind program with no real commitment to determine effectiveness. Just another media/PR Sound Bite for the campaign trail with no real teeth or proof. And that is why, ladies and gentlemen, the war on drugs was lost. If it doesn't have a proven, measurable impact, why do it? We don't need efforts. We need results.

Re: “Riverfest is dead, a victim of cost and competition

And another thing...it's likely no groups or bands want to come to Little Rock - given our steady rise towards the top of most violent cities in the nation! Plus, it's continually publicized that we don't have enough cops - not because we don't have the funding - but because not even cops want to live here OR work here. Tell the truth or lie to the Devil!

Re: “Riverfest is dead, a victim of cost and competition

World Fest needs to go next. What a waste of money and a pathetic event that has ALWAYS been pathetic. In fact, the whole Racial and Cultural Diversity Commission should go - spend that money on evidence-based prevention programs that WORK - instead of having a do-nothing commission complete with Executive Director and staff. Riverfest was doomed when the cooperation between NLR and LR ended and then...the date change. Both contributed to the failure.

Re: “Benton Chief Kirk Lane named state drug director

This is GREAT news! Best appointment to this position in years (if ever). Finally, someone with boots on the ground experience, commitment to community level prevention, expertise with the legislature AND a work ethic based on innovation and progressive efforts. This is GREAT news!

Re: “Hutchinson lobbyist moves to Teacher Retirement System

Hatcher started in the Mark Martin administration for a generous salary (given his experience) of $43,000. That was in 2011. Now...his salary is $114,000? What the what?!?

Re: “Committee gives nod to bill exempting state Capitol police from FOIA

The Capitol Police report to the Arkansas Secretary of State...which is frightening. If that weren't frightening enough...the Capitol Police who report to the Arkansas Secretary of State Mark "F@#K the FOIA" Martin are about to be exempt from FOIA? In what parallel universe is this a good idea?

Re: “UPDATE: GOP comes up with plan to have state workers pay for state maternity leave

Here's an idea...talking about salary dollars already "budgeted"...something not costing a cent? What about the insurance paid for open or vacant state employee positions? The state's portion of those premiums (around $430 per month) are paid to the insurer whether the job is "filled" or "vacant". That is MANY, MANY, THOUSANDS of dollars each month being paid to a private insurer (CASH ON THE BARREL HEAD) for nothing. Nothing. Not a thing. Why not insure a few un-insured? Why not require the insurance companies to pay maternity leave? We all know that this would promote a good start for parents and babies in terms of health and well-being. With Hutchinson's "freeze" in place for state hiring...positions are sitting open longer and longer. And every month the insurers still draw a check for empty positions. Some positions stay open for months...MONTHS! What a waste! (Unless you are in the insurance business!)
