I must qualify my statements by stating that the cousin mentioned in the third paragraph of this review is my uncle and that my mother is also mentioned in the foreword of the book. There are some facts from the book which are contrary to your assertions. The primary fact I must mention is that some of the descendants of Jordan Chavis still identify as "black" and, unlike us "white" descendants, were aware that some of their relatives had "passed" some 150 years ago.

Sorry to lay the quotes on so heavily, but recent events in Spokane have reiterated how relative these terms are. I appreciate the tendency to generalize about cases such as these; however, I think this may be a case of a family whose racial identity was not as clear and predestined as you imply.
