Re: “Arkansas's lenient adoption laws exact price from Marshallese family

The New Republic article is quite one-sided. It's a glimpse into several gut wrenching scenarios that should upset every reader but it does not tell every angle. I've adopted twice and one of my children is Marshallese. I have always believed that the tie between a biological mother and her child is unbreakable and I support that in my children's relationships with their moms. Adoption is hard and imperfect but also beautiful and a very good option for many. I fully support birth parent rights and agree that there is room for improvement, especially in Arkansas. I also believe in building up what you believe in instead of tearing down what you don't. If the purpose of this article is to promote sound, ethical, positive adoptions that all willing parties feel good about, it missed the boat. It's set up to spread fear, judgement, and minimize adoption altogether. I'm very disappointed in this article and News Republic for publishing it when they claim to provide "unbiased" stories.
