Re: “Circuit judge facing review for failure to pay federal income taxes

He needs to be paying back half his Judge's salary seeing he hardly works half a day. And he ran on the promise he would work actual full work weeks. And someone please help his trial court assistant as she works less than he does. What a shame for that division!!

Re: “A bright spot: Warwick Sabin's effort produces a winning ethics law

Did anyone else notice that at the end of Amendment 3 it notes that it is to take effect NOVEMBER 5th, 2014? Didn't the breakfast the legislatures have with lobbyists violate what was just passed? How about the big dinner they are having - with all the lobbyists - won't that be a violation as well?

Re: “Ask the Times (me, in other words) UPDATE

I would like to know why on or around September 10th an employee at the Game and Fish Commission was at work extremely high or high enough that management had her driven home by another employee and there have been no reports on it. Also, how much money did they spend on shutting all AGFC offices last week and holding it's annual employee appreciation day. How do they justify giving all 600 employees the day off when they are barley bringing in enough money to cover their budget? And why don't all other state employees get a day off - where is the appreciation for them? MAX RESPONDS: I don't know. But we'll try to check.

Re: “More expensive legal help for Secretary of State Mark Martin

Looks like the state is giving quite a chunk of tax payer dollars to the Quattlebaum firm if you count the tens of thousands is dollars (closer to $100,000 I believe) the Ark Game and Fish has paid them. Bryan Hendricks wrote an article recently on this same issue of state agencies with several lawyers paying outside counsel but he focused on AGFC, and it was shocking. Would have been even more shocking if he would have got the numbers right. He WAY underestimated the amount AGFC was paying out. I believe he said it was 1.25 million over 4-5 years when they paid that to one firm (Perkins & Trotted) alone!!!! Are all state agencies afforded the luxury of paying outside attorneys to do their work when they have very well paid attorney's on staff? Max you should look into which agencies are paying out the most. We should know where our tax dollars are being double dipped!!!

Re: “G & F commissioner arrested

I heard former commissioner Craig Campbell and current commissioner Emon Mahoney bailed him out and they all continued on with their hunting trip. That's some balls he's got - just leave the AGFC employees that he's screwed over so many times to deal with his mess. If you believe he is a "real jewel" or "nice guy" then you sure don't know much about his dealings at AGFC. He's more like an arrogant bully. I think I can hear the AGFC employees laughing at him from here!! And fyi Rick - lay off the overpowering horrible cologne as everyone can always still smell the booze on you as you troll the halls.

Re: “G & F commissioner arrested

Didn't AGFC send out a press release a couple of days ago giving notice their commissioners were going to be meeting to duck hunt in Lonoke Co?? This guy has been a total jackals since the day he was appointed. This is just the latest in his endeavors that has caused the AGFC embarrassment. Hope he is smart enough to just resign. Karma is a bitch ain't it Rick!!

Re: “The line is open

What people don't realize about the toilet paper case, which the inmate represented himself pro se, is that the defense for the Faulkner county jail paid for by the citizens of that county was over $10,000. This was paid for thru the county defense fund with the Ark Assoc of Counties who is represented by Rainwater Holt and Sexton at $200an hour and their lawyers drug this case on for two years! And they represent half the counties in the state on hundreds of worthless cases just like this and have for 20 years. They bill the AAC $1.5 MILLION a year on all these cases by inmates who represent themselves for free. Talk about a money making machine this firm has going on. Tax payers in these counties should realize every five minutes when they see a Rainwater Holt and Sexton commercial on tv that their tax dollars are paying for these commercials.
