Re: “The billionaires tout school 'choice'

Here's the working link that got cut off. I believe it's by a former charter school cheerleader turned critic. http://dianeravitch.net/2013/01/04/courts-and-nlrb-charters-are-not-public-schools/

Re: “The billionaires tout school 'choice'

How many of these filthy rich poo-bahs actually sent THEIR kids to public schools? Very few if any, I'd wager. This is merely their initial salvo in a long term scheme to siphon taxpayer dollars from public schools and funnel the $$ to private & religious schools--i.e., VOUCHERS. Numerous court decisions & other rulings (see link below) demonstrate that charter schools are NOT legally public schools. Hopefully these right wing, public school hating Daddy Warbuckses won't be able to buy enough legislators to divert public funds to subsidize all the private, lily-white Richie Rich academies.

Re: “Republican extremists, in their own words

Charlie Fuqua often scaled snow-capped heights of idiocy. Personal favorite: about 15 years ago when he was in the Ledge, Charlie claimed he was misquoted...by Otus the Head Cat.

Re: “God according to Charlie Fuqua

Max, you neglected to mention Charlie's perhaps dumbest public comment ever, maybe 15 years ago when he was in the Ledge. Charlie truly scaled snow-capped heights of idiocy...when he claimed he was misquoted by Otus the Head Cat.

Re: “Brummett weighs in on 'primitive life force' Nate Bell UPDATE

Ah, you right-wingers are such hypocrites. Imagine if a Democratic state rep had, say, compared some Republican state legislators' support of disenfranchising minority voters and racially profiling Hispanics to stuff dreamed up by the Nazis. Doyle "Where There's A Will, There's A" Webb would have been straight out with a sanctimonious news release taking exceptional offense. Knuckle-dragging Tea Party types like Bell, of course, smear randomly and often with little to no basis in fact, partly because they demagogue on demand and partly because they have so little grasp of history & reality.

Re: “Democrats target the billionaires

John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and all the other Republican leaders and Tea Party acolytes who scream "no tax increases--EVER!" are conveniently ignoring the taxation record compiled by the GOP's deified Ronald Reagan. Reagan during the second year of his presidency (1982) signed into law the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act (TEFRA). TEFRA represents the LARGEST PEACETIME TAX INCREASE IN AMERICAN HISTORY. And, as California Governor, Reagan in 1967 signed into law what was at the time the LARGEST TAX HIKE EVER PROPOSED BY ANY GOVERNOR IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES. California didn't sink into the Pacific Ocean and the U.S. economy did not disintegrate. Apparently even Reagan realized that tax increases were sometimes necessary. Too bad the stubborn idealogues who run the Republican Party today don't have the same kind of sense.
