Survival Guide

Tips on making it through a nine-hour cheese dip festival.

"Nine hours of cheese dip is a lot. That's a lot of cheese dip," says Jason Knapp, executive chef at Pulaski Tech's Big Rock Cafe and an adjunct professor. And he's right. So what can you do to make sure you can stuff as much cheese dip as possible into your face and have a good time doing it?

1. Eat roughage. Cheese isn't exactly easy on the old digestive system. Eat lots of greens to pave the way. "I would say salad. I would definitely say roughage the day before and the day after," Knapp says.

2. Water, not beer. "I would definitely say you're going to want to go with water to help thin some of that cheese dip out," Knapp says. "Don't go the beer route because you're already going to be stuffed with cheese dip. You don't need to make yourself feel bloated on top of that with a bunch of beer."

3. Cardio. A full day of snacking is going to require some sort of physical activity to help offset the heaping calorie intake. "I would add a lot of cardio on top of that. A lot of exercise. Not during, but before and after for sure," Knapp says.
