Re: “Only the guilty want closure in West Memphis Three case

BrianL, I feel for you. At least they spent serious time in jail. The Alford plea was the only thing that prevented this animal from suing the state for false imprisonment. The Devil's Knot is really unwatchable. Echols and his wife and cohorts are probably mega rich due to the celebrity interference. That must be a blow to the families of the dead children. Do you know if the families sued for wrongful death in Civil Court like the Brown and Goldman families did in the OJ Simpson case? Probably not, they don't have the money unless Alabama allows such cases to be taken on a contingent fee basis. Some courageous lawyer would have had to be found. I don't know what the statute of limitations is in that state for wrongful death, but it must have run so Echols and his cohorts have nothing to fear by perpetrating their lies. I hope Echols and his cohorts don't abuse their own children. It will be interesting to see what they have to say as they grow up. You know, Echols is so brain washed and has so much to economically gain by believing and spewing his lies, he may actually believe his propaganda. Nah. OJ always knew he was guilty. Mara Levitt mus be a very rich women too. Best compensated of the lot. She got hold of gold and kept running with it. The Devil's Knot will not make a profit so whatever she has already been paid for the story is it.

Re: “Only the guilty want closure in West Memphis Three case

I am a former Assistant District Attorney in Brooklyn, NY. Just because Peter Jackson and other celebrities say the writer and his cohorts are innocent, does not make it so. The films made based on the case are one sided propaganda pieces. No objectivity whatsoever just like a Michael Moore or Lena Wertmuller film. The prosecution cannot make a counter propaganda film. We take what celebrities say as fact for some reason. Just because after years gone by and the interfearance of celebrities, the prosecution opined that it could not prove a case against the writer and his cohorts beyond a reasonable doubt does not mean he and his cohorts are innocent. The opposite is most likey true. For example, Norman Mailer, a famous author whom most of you never heard of, was responsible for the release of an inmate named Henry Abbott, a jailhouse author who wrote a book about being incarcerated and the prison system called In the Belly of the Beast. Mailer and company were unrelenting and when the murderer Abbott was released, do you know what he did? He killed a waiter who he felt disrespected him. If it were not for Mailer and company's celebrity status, a young man would still be alive. The writer and his cohorts are likely guilty, guilty, guilty. It is scary that he lives near me. I can only hope that I don't encounter him when he kills again. Maybe we will be lucky and the thrill of killing is gone. The criminal justice system is filled with pitfalls. Guilt or innocence is more a matter of how much money you have and the writer and his cohorts wound up having lots more money than the prosecution. Misguided celebrities won his and his cohorts freedom, but there is no justice for three little boys who were slaughtered by him and his co-defendants.
