Re: “The Damien I Know - The Architect and the Inmate

I just watched the latest documentary on HBO. I thought OMG this could be in any small town in WV. Having been involved in a couple of close family court cases in WV, anyone that does think this could happen, has never experienced life in a small rural town in the south. My mother almost went to jail due to a psychotic breakdown. The reason that she did not was due to my grandparents, a hard working farm couple who had saved their whole life after my grandfather survived WWII and Bastogne. They were able to pay for the psychiatrist to come from Washington DC and to hire a high profile attorney from a larger neighboring town. Yes, money/the almighty dollar is what kept her from going to jail for possibly the rest of her life who was up against a bias and sexist judge. Now I am enduring the loss of my spouse of 27 yrs due to a heroine addict/DUI. The reason the culprit is in jail is likely due to the fact that my daughter had worked for a local congresswoman which led to political ties. Yes ladies and gentlemen this is a couple of examples of how the justice system really works and this is just from my small town life experiences in WV. When I read that Lorri was from WV, I was not surprised. We are a special breed of those who are strong and possess native intelligence unlike no others. I am so touched and moved by Lorri's and Damien's story, I wish them peace, happiness and all the joys of life that they so deserve. What an incredible story.....
