Re: “Mylo Coffee Co. announces move to brick and mortar

There are already alternatives to Starbucks with River City and the Brazilian coffee house so now that strip will have 3 within walking distance-not that I'm complaining but hope they can all maintain. Welcome to Hillcrest!

Re: “Food Feedback Friday: waffley, mu shu, and boom-boom

I was in Bermuda for vacation and had some great seafood and new to me items. Be jealous! :-) I had a fish sandwich that was just heaven with nothing but fresh fish and soft bun from Mama Angelo's (I think). It was tiny and a local spot. I had a heavenly slice of pie in 3 sittings from Temptations that was chocolate, caramel and pecan. For my last meal I ate at Wahoo's and had curried fish cakes and plantains as an appetizer followed by bbq rockfish on top of black-eyed peas and rice spiced somehow, pawpaw chutney and more plantains. Oh and I drank the 3 local mixed drinks-yellow bird, dark and stormy, and rum swizzle throughout the week. So I know this isn't AR food but just in case anyone gets the chance to go...

Re: “Food Feedback Friday: birthdays, beans, burritos

Thanks for past postings on Hot Springs because based on suggestions I ate well. I had the park island sandwich from Park Island Cafe and grocer and organics (think that's the full name) and it was fantastic. Hearty toasted bread with eggplant, hummus, tomato, onion, cream cheese-divine with hibiscus tea, which I could drink all day. I ate fish tacos from Taco Mama which were also delicious. Beer battered tilapia with avocado and cabbage with sides of rice and black beans that were also tasty. The salsa had a great flavor with a bit of a spice. I could not finish the 3 tacos even though I tried because they were so good. All of that plus drink for about $12-Take that Local Lime. On the way out of town and needing travel food I stopped at Bailey's dairy bar and had the special-burger, fries and drink for like $7. Not fancy just tasty and the burger was some griddled goodness with buttery bun. Just in case anyone needs a place to stay down there Alpine Inn is cheap, clean, and has the nicest owners.

Re: “Food Feedback Friday: brave, beer, and Biscuitgate

Ate at Layla's last night and had wonderful tilapia, rice, and veggies. Tasted a friend's baba ghanoush and wished I had a bowl. :-)

Re: “Food Feedback Friday: brisket, brunch, and basil

Just left Local Lime for dinner and will not be back. Service was fine and that was about the extent of the good. Tried 3 salsas and they were bland--I convinced the others to try the zucchini one based on reviews and then felt bad when I tasted it. It was nothing to write home about. I ordered the rustic skirt steak cooked medium based on menu's suggestion--it was tough, chewy, and tiny. I also got a tiny container of pico, and substituted jicama slaw for the beans but they arrived too. The slaw was pretty good but I didn't really get jicama from it. I cannot eat beans so I just tasted them and passed them on, so so. So to recap, I paid $20 for less than a happy meal worth of food and left hungry. And we could not have a conversation because it was extremely loud which was partly a large group close by and partly the design of the place. Why is it that folks do not know how to have nice dinner conversations? So, I don't get the hype. I was way happier with Your Momma's Good Food downtown for lunch!
