Father, forgive us for what we must do... you forgive us and we'll forgive you... we'll forgive each other til we both turn blue, then we'll whistle and go fishin' in heaven (J. Prine)

Re: “House Speaker Jeremy Gillam releases budget detailing cuts if Medicaid expansion ends (UPDATES)

Senator Hester, you and your cronies wish government was smaller? Then prove it. You first. Get off the government teat. Surely a man of your talents can support himself as a private citizen, the way all true makers do. Man up, put your money where your mouth is, get some skin in the game, quit being a taker. Refuse to take your per diems and your pension from the hard working makers of Arkansas for this part-time job that merely perpetuates the idea that the work of government is worthy of support.

Re: “Crowd gathers at Capitol for Franklin Graham

Tell me again why these religious organizations don't have to pay taxes, but I do?

Re: “Catholic bishop says diocese will intervene to support ban on same-sex marriage

I'm surprised the good bishop didn't include some Biblical examples of marriage and it's procreative aspects. I thought I'd help out and list examples of marriage traditions scripture offers us...

"2 Samuel 5:12-13 Then David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel. After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him."

"1 Kings 11:1-6 King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh’s daughter—Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites. They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites, “You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray. As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been. He followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites. So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not follow the Lord completely, as David his father had done."

"2 Chronicles 11:17-21 They strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam son of Solomon three years, following the ways of David and Solomon during this time. Rehoboam married Mahalath, who was the daughter of David’s son Jerimoth and of Abihail, the daughter of Jesse’s son Eliab. She bore him sons: Jeush, Shemariah and Zaham. Then he married Maakah daughter of Absalom, who bore him Abijah, Attai, Ziza and Shelomith. Rehoboam loved Maakah daughter of Absalom more than any of his other wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters."

Re: “The equal rights open line

el, I've known some stoned divorced women... but I've never known anyone to get stoned to the point of dying... Oh, wait... that's not what you meant, was it?

Yeah, disrespectful brats were subject to a good stoning as well, according to that part of The Good Book. We do so love to pick and choose, when it comes to The Good Book. Think I'll put on my 60/40 blend and head out for some bacon wrapped shrimps...

Re: “The equal rights open line

I have often pondered what effect a single-gendered marriage could possibly have on a two-gendered one. This is the only thing that makes sense to me:

There must be this "successful marriage pixie dust" that gets sprinkled on a newlywed couple at the time of their vow-sharing, by “legal marriage” fairies. But circumstantial evidence would suggest that "successful marriage pixie dust" is in short supply, which would explain the 50+% divorce rate amongst two-gendered marriages we've all heard about.

So, if gay people get married LEGALLY, then they'll qualify for some of that "successful marriage pixie dust" as well. Leaving even less for the two-gendered newlyweds. And without that pixie dust, divorce rates will surely skyrocket.

THAT'S WHY GAY PEOPLE GETTING MARRIED HURTS STRAIGHT PEOPLE MARRIAGES!

Re: “Pea Ridge schools bar students over HIV concerns

I'll see your HIV hysteria and raise you a Hepatitis C freakout. With all the meth heads in that part of the state, better check every kid in the school district. Shut down the schools, just in case. No sense in singling anyone out.

Re: “Arkansas Business publishes concealed carry list

So if you folks with strong opinions were thinking about hiring someone and looked that person up on the concealed carry list and found that person to be legally licensed to carry a concealed weapon (not necessarily evidence that said person does in fact carry said weapon), and that person was qualified in all respects for the job, would knowing he/she had gone to the effort of obtaining a CCP sway your decision to hire said person?
