Re: “Saline sheriff's actions night of arrest worse than originally reported

"Arkansas has what is known as Actual Control of a Vehicle (ACV). ACV means that if you have what appears to be the intent and ability to drive the vehicle then you are in control of it and therefore you are deemed to be driving the vehicle. Basically, if you put the keys in the ignition while you are intoxicated you can get a DWI, even if you are asleep in the back seat in a private parking lot or your own driveway."

He should've been charged with a DWI. Hopefully he will be, because you and I sure would've been.

Re: “UPDATE: Hastings defense lawyer protests contempt of court fines; judge rebuffs him

I don't think he had to "counsel" him after every statement. The prosecutor objected to the statements in the defense's opening, and the judge made his ruling then. He shouldn't have to remind Mr. James, a VERY experienced attorney, each time he went against that ruling.

Re: “Bill filed to raise judicial pay

FWIW, the judges haven't gotten a raise in at least five years, and no state employee has gotten a COLA increase in at least four. (Or at least those of us in the court system haven't. I'm sure the UAMS docs have.)

Re: “Freshmen will pay more at UALR

Like I said in an earlier thread, my son attends UALR full-time and lives at home in Saline County. If he was in high school now, we'd just send him to Pulaski Tech for his core requirements, then to UALR after that.

The only winner here is Pulaski Tech, as far as I can see.
