Re: “Bill introduced to ban Howard Zinn books from Arkansas public schools

Thank goodness for the lateral thinking and courage of Howard Zinn for without introspection and reflection there is no platform on which to interpret history and look to the future. The de facto censorship of Howard Zinn's book sadly appears to be part of a general pattern aimed at bringing up children in a rigidly conformist society depleted of the creative thought upon which not only social understanding an justice is based but also upon which survival in a technological World depends. It appears that knowledge denial in general and science denial in particular, especially by the myopically religious, is gaining ground in the US. Bringing children up to believe that Job hob-nobbed with brontosaurs is vastly crippling. Social progress arose through struggle; it was won at enormous cost and can be lost in the blink of an eye. Irrational nationalism can only bring conflict in an interlinked and dangerously armed World. Howard Zinn is to be lauded if not admired; for those who find him initially too strong, perhaps start with Oliver Stone's "Untold History of the United States".
