Re: “SWEPCO's power

Perhaps many of the readers are not aware of the acute need for jobs in SW Arkansas. The SWEPCO Turk plant will be one of the cleanest and safest in America.

1,700 construction jobs that are paying very well have been a tremendous boost to this area. Arkansas seems to to concentrate on the Northwest part of the state and Little Rock and forget that Hope and Texarkana are part of the state also.

The economic benefit will be felt for years to come. Thanks SWEPCO for building the plant.

Re: “Audubon, Sierra Club fight coal plant

SWEPCO said about 100 will be hired after the plant is completed. These will be very good jobs for this part of Ark. That is 100 good paying jobs that will help keep gas stations open, help with the economies of SW Ark. Such as, schools, city budgets etc. I'm glad SWEPCO did not go to Hallsville, Texas the proposed other site. Hallsville has plenty of job already as they are very near Longview, Texas. SW Ark. needs jobs and SWEPCO is providing them.

Re: “Audubon, Sierra Club fight coal plant

Once again it appears those opposing this plant could care less about the working folks at the plant. If they shut it down I doubt SW Arkansas will see anything in the way of new industry. Is that what the people of SW Ark want, no growth. I doubt it.

Should everyone in this part of Ark. just pack up and move to Dallas ?

Let's hope the plant continues and is operating soon.

Re: “Opponents seek halt to power plant work

Let's hope SWEPCO is able to build this plant and keep the jobs in Arkansas. I see very few comments from those in opposition to this plant about the families in SW Ark who are dependent on the construction jobs this plant provides.

I think the final outcome will be a win for SWEPCO and SW Arkansas citizens !

Re: “Memphis finally lands Bass Pro?

I have been in the Texas store near Lake Ray Hubbard that Bass Pro Shop operates. The store is huge. I do not think they will spend that amount of money in the Little Rock area.

Re: “Truman Arnold's $10 million gift to Texas A&M

If you live within the Texarkana area and can stay home instead of paying dorm fees Texarkana A &M is the place to be. I'm sure this University will be similar to UT-Tyler which now has over 5,000 students. Just give the school a little time and watch it grow.

Re: “Truman Arnold's $10 million gift to Texas A&M

A tremendous boost to A&M @ Texarkana. While the University is in Texarkana, Texas many Arkansas residents attend.

As branch of the huge A & M system, it has a lot of advantages to help it grow.

I understand the University plans to develop a full athletic program. I doubt they will play football. The mascot for the school is the Eagle.

Texarkana is booming and the new University certainly helps to accelerate that growth.
