Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world. I took the midnight going, well, you know where.

Re: “Hot Dog Mike announces closure

I saw Mike two weeks ago at Dugan's. We were having a meeting (drinking beer) with other 3rd St merchants. I own a gift shop, Paper, Scissors, Little Rock. He was happy and upbeat, looking forward to selling some hot dogs to for the epic St Patty's day on the block... Maybe he will bring his cart down to the party, I'm gonna miss him.

Re: “Hard work, low pay, no getting ahead: The most the minimum wage in Arkansas promises

YES, the minimum wage should be higher. No, it would have not create a disproportionate burden for small-business owners compared to corporations. There is NO proof for this justification The problem is large corporations who don't take care of their employees. As a small business owner and former middle-manager, and former minimum-wage employee, I have seen and experienced the effect of what living at or below the poverty line can have on an individual, and their children, and it is heart breaking.

I managed the third party house-keeping staff at the major hospital in Little Rock. These women might have the worst minimum-wage job, ever. Exploding bags of shit and exposure to every illness known to man are not nearly as nasty as the treatment they receive from salary employees. I watched these women leave a shift to go outside and sleep in their car. The next morning, they would take a shower in one of the hospital rooms they were cleaning. They would get disciplined, docked pay, terminated, but most importantly, exploited for misunderstanding VERY complicated rules regarding clocking in procedure, overtime, holiday pay, and vacation. These are the women who need a union, illiterate and uneducated, these women HAVE NO CHANCE, and neither do their children.
