Re: “State Rep. Jon Hubbard still on tear over immigrants

As a Jonesboro native, taxpayer and (unfortunately) constituent of "Rep." Hubbard, it is chilling just how bent on hate and bigotry this man is. Drive around Jonesboro and you'll note the endless Hubbard re-election signs and it's still months before the general election. There's a reason for that - the oh-so-normal Republican realizes he'll be strongly tested in seeking another term. It is unbelievable that in 2012 we are still fighting the forces of ignorance, prejudice and outright resentment of folks who aren't like us, so to speak. I am proud to NOT be like Hubbard. I am proud to have NOT voted for him last time and will be even prouder NOT to do so again. Trust me when I say that Jonesboro is a far more progressive city than this joker would like. Max Brantley is positively correct - if no other Republican loses a legislative race this year, surely Jon Hubbard should!

Re: “Annals of legislative nuttery

I would implore Max to take a serious look at Rep. Jon Hubbard, R-Jonesboro. This guy is certifiable in every way. A true wing-nut. For some idiotic reason, voters here chose to replace the rational, reasonable Joan Cash with this loon and what did he accomplish in his first (and hopefully LAST) legislative session? N-O-T-H-I-N-G. He sponsored some bigoted bills against immigrants and such and came off looking like the pseudo-John Bircher he aspires to be. This brain-dead Repub from NWA is no surprise; that region sent Jim Holt and Jim Bob Duggar to the Legislature.

Here in NEA, we've been spared that same lunacy. That is, until now. One can only hope the Democrats find a solid candidate to run against good ole Jon . . . It would be nice to see him sent back to the padded room with 24-hour surveillance; you know, just to keep him from harming others.
