Re: “ASU to reap $3.69 million from estate of Jim and Wanda Lee Vaughn

They never had kids and after their death I was fortunate enough to receive some of jim's papers. A brilliant man who loved history. He wasn't just a educator. He owned radio stations, farmland, grain elevators and a number of other ventures. He was a outstanding man with a talent for business.

Re: “Chinese textile plant coming to Forrest City will consume all cotton farmed in state, news report says

That is dumb for VOA and AEDC to say that the plant will use all of arkansas's cotton or to even speculate on increased acreage. We border a nunber of cotton producing states and with our location to the gulf they'll probably even import cotton. Not all of arkansas's crop land is suited for cotton even though it was grown in all 75 counties at one time. Unlike rice, corn and soy, cotton requires special equipment and after harvest infrascture. Arkansas had 400k acres of cotton this year which is double the record low 200k acres in 2015. Production might push over ten year average of 600k acreas, but i doubt its going to break the 20 yr high of 1.1 millions acres set in 2006, because farmers operations and field setups have changed. Coukd be wrong, the 80's showed produxtion as low as the last few years, but that was a different time.

Re: “Justice, Arkansas style: Discrimination continues on birth certificates

Didn't the SCOTUS just rule on this monday? Seems like a pretty tall order to think everything would change Tuesday morning. If changes are required to regulations and documents, even with a emergency order, it would at the least take a week, and that's if there wasn't a federal holiday next week.

Didn't SCOTUS just rule on this monday? Seems like a tall order to think everything would function Tuesday morning especially if document and regulation changes are required. Even a emergency order could take a week at least, probably longer with July 4 next week.

Re: “Looks like no raises for state elected officials this year. Fair enough

They havent given merit raises since at least 2012. When the GOP took over all the merit raises became lump sum payments . I think the Arktimes should look at the raise in pay of the postions that ASA governors office employees have gotten when they leave the gov office for a state agency.
