Charter schools have not appreciably improved on public schools anywhere they've been tried. They only succeed financially when they can undercut staffing and credentialing that public and traditional private schools have to adhere to and cherry-pick their student body. The public schools, on the other hand, are stuck with buildings and equipment they buy and maintain to serve all eligible children, and have to provide special services to all who need them. And, they are saddled with a sports hierarchy they can't get rid of that eats up a big chunk of their resources. Maybe we should suggest that charter school funds come out of the athletic budget?
