Re: “The legacy of Clunk

I was a young kid just starting Rogers High School in 2001. Generally didn't have a clue about music beyond classic rock like Zep and Floyd. When I got my driver's license in 2002 I started making weekend trips to Clunk with some friends of mine who were looking for something to do. I was at that Modest Mouse show in 2002, along with a handful of others. I didn't really know who I was seeing beyond a few of the headliners, and I sure as shit didn't know who most of the acts were on the handbills being passed around for the following month. About a year later I moved from Arkansas and knew I had to find the local scene and be a part of it. It's fair to say that Clunk is the reason I became involved with, played, and listen to the music that has been a mainstay in my life. All this is to say, thank you so much, Clunk. You showed me that music was and is so much more than something being played on the radio.

When I look back and see what I missed out on (Les Savy Fav; Unwound; At The Drive-In; etc), my 31 year old self becomes very upset with my 16 year old self. Even without seeing everything, Clunk opened the doors to so many others. Again, thank you, Selby for everything.
