Re: “Hendrix to institute limited 'gender-neutral' housing

I moved in with a bisexual guy friend (I'm a straight girl) off-campus when I was a junior at Hendrix several years ago. Because Hendrix grew so much, the school in fact purchased our apartment complex and evicted us because we were opposite-sex roommates. All the same-sex tenants were grandfathered in and allowed to stay. While I was at first caught off-guard by this new housing option, it would have been fantastic for us since neither of us truly wanted to move away from campus and felt exiled by the whole experience since the Hendrix student lifestyle is so active and social. We just knew our habits were compatible and we were best friends, so it made sense to live together. I think if they keep it as an option for upperclassmen who know who they would like to live with, it will only be a positive addition to the housing situation.
