Re: “Bobby Petrino is a jerk and liar UPDATE

It’s my understanding, and I certainly could be wrong, but the trooper, Mr. King, works for Mr. Petrino as security detail during his off time, and since he was the only person Jeff Long knew who was closest to the accident, other than Coach Petrino, and who was also the first “staff” person to see him afterwards, the very person who transported him to the hospital, and who was clearly more in possession of his faculties than Mr. Petrino, it just seems prudent that Mr. Long would have contacted him over that four day period when there were so many questions and so few answers. Again, Jeff does not strike me as the type fellow who would think something like “Oh, I’ll just wait and see what happens,” particularly when the U of A has a $320,000,000.00 (or nearly 1/3rd of a BILLION dollar) long-term plan to construct and/or renovate every single athletic facility on the Fayetteville campus currently underway, the first project and flagship of which is the new football complex predicated on Mr. Mission Critical (Bobby Petrino)’s success and well being.

To approach the above-described plans with a laze fair wait-and-see attitude is not a characteristic of an executive responsible for such goals. I suspect when Wal-Mart or Tyson invest such capital, they are indeed following up on, and pinning down, every single eventuality, if humanly possible. Moreover, the development of good, reliable facts as EARLY as possible in a capital investment like that is, I am certain, a stated goal if not a standard practice. If not, then the financial analysts who rate them for investment banks and brokerage houses would be downgrading their stock; sometimes analysts do this even if the aforementioned corporations are ON their games.

Jeff Long is not only the AD, he is also the Vice-Chancellor and has plenty of staff to accomplish his mission. I just think for him to not use his resources to discover facts for contingency purposes and succession planning is reckless. And again, Mr. Long does not strike me as a slacker, but you are right, he could have adopted a wait-and-see attitude, although such an approach does not seem plausible for the reasons described above. Additionally, you can add to his pressure the unbearable intensity of the national media spotlight during those four days of being ignorant of the facts – the most significant of which he could have discovered simply by calling the guy who is among Booby Petrino’s most trusted inner circle, i.e. his security detail, Mr. King.

Finally, did ANYONE in Human Resources at the U of A not think it odd for Ms. Dorrell, who is still essentially a new hire to her position with the Football program, to miss four days of work right off the bat? That alone raises all kinds of red flags for a new hire and would have generated an inquiry at least to her whereabouts!

Re: “Bobby Petrino is a jerk and liar UPDATE

AP is reporting that Jeff Long will be working over the weekend and likely on Easter Sunday but gave no time frame for completion of his review.

So based on the facts thus far – and please, someone correct me if have them wrong – the U of A expects me to believe that Mr. Long did NOT know about “a women” who was also involved in the wreck until Thursday when Mr. Petrino apprised him of her involvement only moments before the state trooper’s report became public. For this to be a truthful, I am required to accept that he (Mr. Long) did not communicate in ANY detail with Mr. Petrino’s personal Arkansas State Trooper, Mr. King, who took Mr. Petrino to the hospital and could give an account of how his health was and what happened.

OK. For this to be plausible, then Mr. Long either actually did not speak at all to THE one person who would have had the most information about the accident, or Mr Long did in fact talk to the trooper but the trooper did not mention the women to Mr. Long, which is unlikely since she is in the trooper’s report.

Think about that for a moment: Mr. Petrino was receiving medical attention and being medicated. How likely is it that Jeff Long would NOT have spoken to the trooper under such circumstances?

During that time frame (From Sunday to Thursday), the U of A made representations to the media, including Sports Illustrated that only one person was involved in the wreck, i.e. Bobby Petrino – Mr. Mission Critical to Jeff Long’s overall job description as Athletic Director. So am I to believe that Mr. Long did NOT talk to the trooper to find out how Mr. Petrino was doing and what had happened? At best, it seems, such behavior would be negligent or reckless. Jeff Long does not strike me as a person who would be either, which begs the question when did Mr. Long actually know?

Currently, his claim is Thursday, which is inconsistent with assumptions that Mr. Long is neither negligent nor reckless. Obviously, I’m digging at whether he has been truthful, and remember there has in fact and deed been a cover up already, which was not wholly completed; so, at what point up the administrative food chain did the cover up fail? Who was complicit, and should Mr. Long really be the one working so hard on Easter Sunday to complete the review?

In the parallel universe that is Arkansas, a few weeks back there was a high school girl in Van Buren who was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, killed, sealed in a barrel and buried by a previously convicted rapist out on parole. The state located her body on a Friday and the family had to wait ALL WEEKEND for a positive ID of the remains because the state crime lab would not conduct the autopsy until the following Monday. Sure glad we have our priorities right.

My Mother is 5th generation Arkansan; this is not the Arkansas in which I grew up. Both my Mother and Father were yellow-dog democrats; I no longer have such loyalties because of bullshit like this.
