UAMS Student-Led Golf Tournament to Raise Money for Car Seat Education

Little Rock, AR: Safe from the Start Golf Tournament, an event to raise money for a unique program to educate parents of newborns about the correct use of car seats before infants leave the hospital, will be hosted by medical students at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

Safe from the Start was established at UAMS in 2005 to help educate parents of newborns about the importance of car seats and their correct use before infants are placed in a car for the first time. UAMS Medical Center is the only hospital with a labor and delivery unit in Arkansas to have a comprehensive child safety seat program.
The tournament was conceived and planned by the Pediatric Interest Group, a volunteer group of UAMS medical students interested in pursuing a career in pediatrics. Tee off is 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2006 at Rebsamen Golf Course, 3400 Rebsamen Park Road in Little Rock, Ark.

Motor vehicle injury is a leading cause of death and disability among children in the United States. Child safety seats when installed and used correctly reduce the risk of death by 71 percent for infants.
