Re: “The food of the people

Looking at your BBQ winners, it blows me away that not ONE BBQ place was mentioned from Northeast Arkansas (Blytheville). Of the aforementioned BBQ restaurants ranked, I have eaten at 4 of them. Between the Mean Pig, McLards, Corky's and Craigs, the Mean Pig is the best of THOSE 4, but that is only PART of the story.

If you are talking about BBQ sandwiches, but to leave Blytheville out of this group, a placed STEEPED in tradition when it comes to "the sandwich", it's just a shame. One would think that a magazine such Arkansas Times would include ALL of Arkansas, not just the "traditional" and yearly favorites.

Blytheville has no less than 10 BBQ shops in the small town of about 15,000. Of all these shacks and restaurants, at least 4 of them have been in business over 50 years (a combined total of 200 years!).

There is great debate as to which BBQ Sandwich restaurant is the best in Blytheville, but I can assure you that those 3 places that have been in business for over 50 years EACH are better than the top 3 you have listed in your BBQ winners.

Arkansas Times VOTERS, next time you're in Blytheville, AR go to any of the following places and TELL ME they aren't better than the wannabe's in the current list.

Try these:
Penn's North (50+ years in business)
Dixie Pigg (50+ years in business)
Kream Kastle (50+ years in business)
Benny Bobs (25+ years in business)

I recently ate there again and several more are now open. There is Red Ray Gills Stand, Yanks BBQ Stand and several others.

Nope, your coverage of BBQ was slanted and wrong. I venture to say there is NOT ONE OTHER TOWN (including Little Rock) with as good as BBQ as you'll find in Blytheville, AR.
