Re: “Monday's open line: News eclipsed by sun

Nanc, no need to spend that money on the DOG unless you have a bunch of parakeet cages to line or run a fish market and need to something to wrap up the guts for disposal.

Even if that's the case, wait until the free ad papers expire each week and grab a bunch of them for a supply. Cheaper and the birds will likely appreciate it.

Re: “Corporate welfare is a failure. So why does it keep increasing?

Obviously, some of our posters either never took Economics 3003 while in college or just forgot about the basic concepts of the subject. Demand creates jobs not some rich asshat with a shitpile of money "earned" by virtue of being in the Lucky Sperm Club.

Put money in the hands of anyone in the lower income brackets and that money goes back into the economy almost immediately via their purchases of goods and services. People either need or want something which creates demand which creates the jobs to fill those needs/wants.

Pretty simple shit to understand for most people with a working brain.

The indoor exhibit has moved on as of last week (August 14th was last day) but the outdoor exhibit will be there for at least another month or so.

Re: “Confederate memories of a Southern boy

Grew up in El Dorado in the '50-60s and graduated from Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University) in 1973. The high school began to integrate in my sophomore year with six students of color. There were 24 in my senior class of 325 give or take.

My exposure to students at SSC from Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Maine, etc. along with what seemed a healthy enrollment of African-Americans since the coaches were recruiting heavily in that demographic for the athletic department opened my eyes more than high school. And probably my mind.

Then there was the 6 years I spent in West Texas getting to know our Hispanic brethren through work and social situations that bring some shaping of my views on these matters.

My parents were not outspoken but I knew there was some racism in their attitudes but we never argued or discussed the matter.

I just finished almost 25 years in the business of public education. Never looked
at a student and saw a color. Just some young person needing some guidance in their world.

I think to answer your question about what went wrong or right is more about what your life experiences and exposures in your early years bring to your attention. How long you hold on to those views is subject to change.
