Father Thessing may have misgivings for having tried to bring a small measure of humanity to the inhumane existence of "death row". I am a Catholic, but more so I strive to be Christian -everyday. And in that never ending attempt to become more like Christ Jesus, I sometimes am at odds internally with what is socially acceptable behavior like despising those on death row for terrible acts contrasted to empathising like a loving father or mother would for their son who may have made a terrible mistake and inflicted pain and injury on many people. Father Thessing is guilty of empathy. I suspect this will affect his ability to lend an ear to those that we have condemned. There are rules of man and rules of God. I don't think Father Thessing sinned against God. I think Jesus was on death row too, wasn't he?
