Re: “Walmart disputes reports on driver in New Jersey wreck

I think Walmart drivers get paid by the hour, but am not sure. Average driver gets about 38 cent a mile driven. Have 14 hours to complete all work for the day. Can drive no more than 11 in a day and 70 in a week. Use the cents per mile as a start point to figure average weekly pay. Combine with this that you don't go home most times for two weeks, truck stops charge for everything ($12 showers and such) at a rate equal to shopping at 7 11, and begin to see this job often has it difficult to earn and even more difficult to have a life. Like being a soldier; you just think of the work at hand makes it easier.

Further, backing and parking are not very intimidating. Hardest parts of my job is driving (and hearing from) among people who think they know this job but act as if its just that easy to avoid them. I do not condone this accident. I'm big on slower speeds and larger following distances but often what people speed to get in front of me, only to be forced to slow dramatically once there. I think I would rather hear the more complete story before judgement.

Appears to me that efforts were to demonize the driver to make quick case. If confirmed he had no sleep, logs, paper or elontronic, would show and he would have been charged with just that, not hearsay. Drivers earn little comparatively, and have to work twice as long for living wage. This is controlled by large companies who are controlled by consumers need to purchase at minimal pricing. Let's see if this will ever change.
