What's Cookin', Feb. 14 

The Hop, the legendary drive-up dairy diner, is relocating to the corner of Scott and Markham, in a space previously occupied by Pokey D's. The target date for opening is Feb. 29. The Cantrell location will remain in business until July. Operations director Joel Garcia tells us that, in addition to longtime menu items, the restaurant will feature '50s decor, hand-dipped ice cream and hand-battered onion rings and chicken strips. Eventually, Garcia says, the Hop will serve beer and possibly breakfast.

Texas-based Cantina Laredo, “the largest gourmet Mexican restaurant concept in the United States,” plans to open a store in the Midtowne shopping center on University Avenue in the summer. The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. According to a news release, the average price is $14.75 at lunch and $23 at dinner.
