What's cooking
One of our favorite Little Rock chefs, Evette Brady, will be giving a cooking demonstration on Saturday, June 3, at the River Market third floor facility. Her appearance is part of the monthly River Market Cooking Classes that feature top chefs in the area, and it cost $10. The class will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the audience can sample the food after the demonstration.
Brady owns Restaurant 1620 in West Little Rock. Call 375-2552 to reserve a spot in the class.

UPDATE: SUPER TAQUERIA This simple but cheerful little restaurant is a welcome stop on busy Rodney Parham, with its inexpensive and tasty lineup of Mexican standards, emphasis on the tacos. We endorse the Big Burrito ($6.25), a fat tubular meal of rice, beans and the meat of your choice, with cheese dip poured on top and then sprinkled with iceberg lettuce. The cilantro-rich salsa is fresh and zingy, but the chips are a standard commercial variety. Menudo, pozole and deep-fried pork carnitas are a few of the interesting offerings that will beckon us back for another taste. Or maybe tortas de cabeza, otherwise known as a head sandwich. The friendly proprietors (English is limited) also are planning an outlet downtown. 9501 Rodney Parham Road. Beer. CC $ 224-5151 LD Tue.-Sun.

UPDDATE: GREAT WALL BUFFET It's been open less than a year, and from the looks of the late afternoon business, it’s a well-received new place to eat. It has all your standard entrees to eat off the AYCE buffet or you can order from the menu. It took us a while to find the fried rice on the buffet. On most buffets it is up front and prominent. Here it's placed in the back corner with other fried foods. Great Wall must have figured out what Bryant likes, though. Over on one island were BBQ ribs, pork chops and a huge 9- to 10-pound chunk of roast beef that you carved yourself. We saw many a customer slicing away. There also were plenty of fish items, especially some wonderful salmon fillets. There’s plenty of seating with booths and tables, though the tables seemed a little snug — no way to avoid bumping the guest behind you. Broadway Crossing Shopping Center, 3213 Main St. Bryant. LD daily. $. CC. 847-7847.
