What's cooking/capsule reviews

What's cooking Steak Escape, a national sub-shop chain whose logo claims it serves “American’s Favorite Cheesesteak,” is eyeing North Little Rock for a new location to open by the summer. There are four Steak Escapes in Arkansas — Jonesboro, Russellville, Fort Smith and Fayetteville — but none in Central Arkansas. Yet. The concept was geared at first toward malls, but Steak Escapes are opening standing facilities with drive-throughs. The company is based in Columbus, Ohio. Capsule review LAZZARI ITALIAN RESTAURANT Though we don’t get to the far-flung Outer Barony of Jonesboro that often, when we do it seems like we usually end up grabbing a lifeless chain-gang burger on our way out of town. In Northeast Arkansas recently with time to kill, however, we decided to stop by what has become a local favorite. With a big ol’ menu of Italian favorites, pizzas, and appetizers, Lazzari was well worth the trip. From that big menu, we tried the chicken parmigiana ($6.25). A hefty chicken breast breaded in a herbed crust and served with a nice blend of cheese and a sweet-spicy marinara, it made for a quick and terrific lunch, and handily took our mind off the hundred-plus-mile trek back to the office that we still had before us. The next time fate brings us back to Jonesboro, we’ll surely skip a trip to McDonaldland and drop in at Lazzari for more. 2230 S. Caraway, Jonesboro, (870)931-4700.
