American Pie Pizza, which originated in Maumelle, has opened a second, larger location in the Lakewood area of North Little Rock, at 4830 North Hills Blvd. The new store will feature the same menu as in Maumelle, as well as beer and wine. It will be open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner (11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday) , then will expand to Sunday lunch and dinner in March. The phone number is 753-0081. The Maumelle American Pie Pizza is one mile west of Interstate 430 on Maumelle Blvd.; the Maumelle phone is 758-8800, and hours are the same.

Bosco’s, in the River Market district, is featuring new weekday lunch specials for $6. The lineup is Delta Red Beans and Rice on Monday, Tuna Salad Melt on Tuesday, Vegetarian Fajita Wrap on Wednesday, Citrus Chicken Salad on Thursday and Fried Catfish Po-Boy on Friday. Each special comes with sides.

New restaurant
SO RESTAURANT-BAR Call it a French brasserie with a sleek, but not fussy American finish — stone walls, handsome furniture and apron-clad waiters anxious to please. Good ingredients are prepared simply — everything from salads and sandwiches to a four-course prix fixe menu starring a buttery filet mounded with lump crab and choice fish. A variety of oysters flown in from Canada are the stars of the French-style cold seafood platters, along with shrimp, crab and lobster. A big deck beckons the al fresco crowd and the kitchen, which knows how to fry, is geared to be a rare Little Rock source of late-night fine dining. It is open as late as 2 a.m. on Thursday and Friday nights. The wine selection is broad and choice. It just simply feels good to eat here. And tastes good, too. There’s free valet parking. We don’t smoke, can’t drink beer anymore and aren’t a huge fan of pizza, though we like one on occasion. So it says something positive about this Stifft’s Station restaurant that we had lunch there — which Pizza D has restarted — and enjoyed it. It smells like stale cigarette smoke and spilled beer, but not overpoweringly so. We went late, after the main lunch rush, so there were but a few souls there lingering over a glass or waiting on a pizza. We waited, and waited, and finally our server, who was as nice as she was young, confessed she’d failed to turn in the order but it was coming, and we’d only have to pay half price. Fortunately, we’d ordered Pizza D’s tomato garlic bread, and got an enormous (half!) serving of French bread sections slathered with tomato sauce, cheese, olives and jalapeno peppers. That, and an order of hot wings — which turned out to be legs, not wings, but were doused and then some by some good, fiery sauce — filled us up anyway, so we took the pizza home. Pizza D’s Pizza d’Resistance is a sweep-the-floor variety; the toppings — peppers and Canadian bacon and pepperoni etc. — are generous. The crust is on the soft side. For $3 — half the real price for an 8-incher — it was quite a deal. The restaurant is playing around with the menu, so you may not get that plate lunch you see there. But it’s reliable. And for neighborhood smokers and beer drinkers looking for a piece of pie, it’s a blessing. 2919 W. Markham St. Full bar. CC $$ 666-5403 LD daily.
