Where are they now?

A look back at Academic All-Stars.

The Arkansas Academic All-Star team is in its fifth year, meaning most of the first group of winners are college seniors this year.

Next year, we hope to take a long look at the progress made so far by our first group of all-stars.

But All-Stars through the years frequently turn up in the news.

Recently, for example, the University of Arkansas announced that Michael Berumen of Fort Smith, a 1998 All-Star, had been named a Barry M. Goldwater Scholar for the 1999-2000 academic year.

Berumen, a zoology student, will receive up to $7,500 to travel to Australia to study coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef. He'll be searching for clues about global warming and increases in ultra-violet radiation.
