Re: “It's Sunday

I just finished watching and listening to an excellent interview program, Q and A on C-Span. It repeats tonight at 10 p.m. and early tomorrow morning at 4:59 a.m. on Cable 52 in Little Rock.

Considering who was being interviewed this, calling the program excellent and the subject articulate and introspective is something I never expected to say as recently as just over an hour ago. The interview was by Brian Lamb of former President George W. Bush and was conducted on the SMU campus. Mr. Lamb asked questions for about 15 minutes and then we had 45 minutes of good questions from students. While they may have been screened, I could not tell it.

Ten years ago in about January 2000 I viewed a C-Span interview of Texas Governor George W. Bush by Brian Lamb. From that interview I concluded that Governor Bush had no respect for the rule of law and was not fit to be president. He turned out to be worse that I predicted. Now I think he has grown greatly over the years and may not have been as bad as press reports and pundits made me believe. Still, I do not feel he was the right person to have been president,
but I now think much more favorably of him as a person and of his administration.

If you can, watch and listen to the interview.

Re: “Mallett going pro

For the first time ever I got news in the from of an E-mail from the DOG. Tlhis one was about Mallett going pro. I suspect the only reason the DOG was fast is the Arkansas Times E-mails and Blog.

Re: “Obama nominates U.S. attorney

There is a line in the report of Senator Lincoln's comment that is probably the reason for the appointment: "Lincoln said. “I have known Conner for years, and was impressed with his work as a member of my legislative staff."

Obviously a "merit" appointment.

Judge Richard Arnold used to say his appointment as U. S. District Judge was based on merit and the name of that merit was Dale Bumpers. He was on Senator Bumpers staff at that time. Would that all political appointments were as good as that one.
