Ian a descendent of Jordan Chavis through his son Alexander Chavis and his wife Mary Jeffers. Their daughter Florida Clementine Chavis was my great grandmother.

Scott, you are correct about some of Jordan's descendants today identify as black. The reason is that Jordan's son, Washington Chavis, married a traditional mullato woman (black/white) who was granted freedom by her father(plantation owner). Many of the offspring married and some lighter skinned descendants were able to pass as white and basically pulled away from the family. It left some very bitter feelings within the family even to this day.
