Re: “Repairs begin on Union Rescue Mission

The City of Little Rock did a through inspection of the facility on Confederate prior to the purchase of the building and knew ever aspect of what was needed if they purchased the building to bring it up to current code.

The Union Rescue Mission does NOT run a Day Resource Center at our Confederate location nor will we operate a Day Resource Center in our new construction. The Union Rescue Mission has served Little Rock and 34 counties in Arkansas for 65 years. We operate a men's facility, the Nehemiah House, on Confederate with three programs: homeless shelter, drug and alcohol recovery program (9 months) and a work program for homeless men (6 months). We also operate a women's facility, the Dorcas House on S. Park with two programs: domestic violence recovery and drug and alcohol recovery.

The Union Rescue Mission is a faith based Christian ministry reaching our to people to help them overcome life difficulties with a message of hope and redemption found in Jesus Christ. We provide residential services, 12 step program, discipleship, medical, dental, and mental health referrals with volunteer partners. We provide for their clothing and medical needs that arise during their stay with the Union Rescue Mission and upon graduation we provide for them furnishings and clothing to assist them in their transition.

All of our services inside of our program are FREE to our guests in the programs. If the guest completes the program, URM even reimburses to the guest their $75 application fee into the respective program.

The City of Little Rocks' Day Resource Center will open the Day Resource Center in Little Rock that is presently located in North Little Rock. The Day Resource Center is presently under contract with River City Ministries in North Little Rock providing case management, laundry services, noon time meal and agency referrals for those homeless whether residing on the streets of Little Rock or in any of the existing shelters. Once the relocation takes place and the Day Resource Center opens in the facility purchased from the Union Rescue Mission, similar services will take place that are presently taking place in North Little Rock.

According to the latest homeless count there are presently plenty of bed space in Little Rock to provide those on the street. However, some homeless prefer not to utilize the services of the service providers, the majority of which are faith based programs.
