Re: “Greyhounds put in harm's way so racino can prosper

I hate to interrupt this little hate and tall tale-fest, but is there a Grand Cyclops of Grey2k in the house? Maybe her or she will explain the comment below. OK....back to the whopper party...

"Middle class white people don't go to bet on the dogs. That is Skechers or the Tuscon Greyhound Park's wet dream."--- Grey2k Board Member

Still waiting for an acknowledgement, retraction, disavowal and/or apology for that hideous remark, which Grey2k, to our knowledge, has yet to publicly address.

Re: “Greyhounds put in harm's way so racino can prosper

"I don't proclaim to love every greyhound like my own son or daughter..."

And that, Eric, is the difference between you and many greyhound trainers and owners, whose lives are entirely dedicated to taking care of their dogs, and whose dogs provide for their sons and daughters. You can't know what that is like until you've lived it.

"I vehemently disagree. Just because you put pictures of animals on your website does not mean you love them. Loving them means that you care for their welfare and do everything in your power to protect them. Loving animals most certainly does not mean that you make a living off of their backs and exploit them rather than having to go out and work an actual real and productive job that contributes to the good of society, rather than to the bowels of it."

Thousands of adopters have fallen in love with their greyhounds from simple photographs on a website. Are you also disputing their love for their dogs, and how they fell for them? Are you an Archangel or something?

And please get your facts straight..the taxes levied on wagers made on the greyhound races have contributed hundreds of million dollars in revenue to local and state economies and budgets over the course of the last 75 years.

Re: “Greyhounds put in harm's way so racino can prosper

"Oh, and that 90% adoption rate... what a joke. The racing industry has been saying that for years... I only have one thing to say to them... prove it. Oh, you can't??? Well of course you can't... because it's a flat out lie and also because you don't even keep track of what happens to these dogs when they are no longer profitable. No one is that stupid anymore. Get real. "

Au contraire. The NGA provides paperwork to all greyhound adopters, and they are requested to return the blue slips to the NGA for record keeping. As we know. lstandard operating procedure of anti-racing groups and activists has long been to advise adopters not to fill out this paperwork, or to have any contact with their greyhound's owners or breeders---so that the actual numbers can never be truly known.

Greyhound tracks, breeders and owners have contributed multi-millions of dollars to rehome greyhounds after their careers are over. And they can prove it. Meanwhile, you and Grey2k apparently dispute what the NGA estimates are the actual adoption percentages, claiming that adoptable greyhounds are routinely being destroyed. So in this day and age of movie camera-cell phones and instant communication, it would seem to be a rather simple task for those who are making the accusation, to film one of the legendary "kill trucks" we all hear so much about, and to investigate and implicate those who participate in illegal or even legal euthanasia of healthy, adoptable greyhounds. The burden of proof is on the prosecution, in our legal system. The burden of proof is on you. If you make the accusation, then prove it. No one wants to get criminals or abusive people out of racing more than the vast majority of racing professionals.

What happened in isolated instances 4-10 or even 20 years ago is of no relevance or help to dogs today who are being put to sleep for no good reason. Either you have proof of this, and can put the finger on the perpetrators, so that they can be dealt with either by the humane law or by the states' racing regulators where they work, or you can't.

Re: “Greyhounds put in harm's way so racino can prosper

Eric, your comment is simple enough for anyone to understand, no matter how much shuckin' and jivin' you do to disavow it. Here it is again:

"I know their idiosyncracies..what toys they like, what beds they prefer, the sounds they make..how they're feeling at any given moment. That's a connection you simply can't have with a greyhound you have never even met".

That is exactly what every trainer and breeder will tell you about their dogs, when people like yourself try to speak for those greyhounds. The greyhounds themselves tell us this each and every day, as they adjust to life splendidly as pets. Two-hundred thousand greyhounds happily living in adoption can't be wrong. Neither are their new owners wrong, when they wax rhapsodically about what wonderful dogs their new pets are, or when they are so utterly charmed by their greyhounds that they adopt packs of them, as many do.

The bottom line is that greyhounds, like all other dogs, reflect the quality of their breeding, handling, training and care. The vast majority of them are loving, sociable, good-natured and highly adaptable, a reflection, as all dogs are, of the care they have received---and they are a pet sensation. You would have us believe that this is in spite of endless cruelties and abuses heaped upon them by the greyhound professional class. Anyone who has ever worked with dogs who have been truly abused knows just how fallacious and ridiculous that line of thought is, and how the greyhound adoption miracle could never have come to pass were it the case.

Isolated instances of human malfunction, like those that occur thousands of times over among humans in the general population of dog owners, do not give you the right to smear and negatively stereotype an entire class of people with the deranged actions of a Ronnie Williams, or other criminals like him. But of course, that is your job as a professional propagandist and member of Grey2k.

Since you have tried to disavow your own statement, ("I know their idiosyncracies..what toys they like, what beds they prefer, the sounds they make..how they're feeling at any given moment. That's a connection you simply can't have with a greyhound you have never even met") perhaps you can be so prescient as to explain the following statement, which appeared on Grey2ks Facebook wall, the night after the infamous Mr. Quiggly commercial ran during the Super Bowl broadcast. This statement was made by a then Grey2k Board Member, and has never, to my knowledge, been officially disowned by Grey2k.

"Middle class white people don't go to bet on the dogs. That is Skechers or the Tuscon Greyhound Park's wet dream."

You've got some 'splainin' to do.
