Re: “College of Medicine dean steps down

"I suspect our current legislators don't want to support a hospital that gives essentially free treatment to poor people......." That is really it in a nutshell. The poor will suffer.

Re: “UA Board studies UAMS financial condition

It is sad to see the lack of support from our state government. UAMS takes care of our poor and covers Trauma while striving with research and education. Sure, there are issues with management as there are in any big entity, but the organization is full of dedicated and caring individuals. Why is the health of the state not a priority to our Governor? Maybe UAMS should make donations to his account like the NRA does and then support would come.

Re: “Musing over Miss Arkansas

I find it amazing someone could write an article trashing these amazing young women. Pageants may not be for everyone, and I think that is okay. I don't trash your rodeos, football, NASCAR, or couch potato activities. To each their own. Buy why be so nasty? Is it the youth or the beauty that irritates some so much? I think if you actually listen to these girls you would find there is much more substance than the sterotype you project. You really should be ashamed. We have enough negatives in a country that seems to be trying to go down the drain-we should embrace the positives. The Miss Arkansas system is a wonderful program and serves as a role model for young girls. The Miss Arkansas Outstanding Teen program is another program with an amazing young queen. If you took the time to investigate you would find a group of young women who have been honored for their community work and their scholastics. Ask about the work done with missing and exploited children, Boys and Girls Club of America, or the Make a Wish Foundation. The system is more than just a single stage show. I look forward to Miss America with the hope our MIss Arkansas can bring home the crown- Alyse Eady almost did!
Remember these girls are someone's daughter or friend, and of course hurtful unnecessary remarks are taken personally. It is especially tough when it is undeserved, and I am sure you understand that as well. Lighten up, Arkansas Times!
