I served with Nick Bacon at Fort McClellan, AL during the early 1980s. Because of my assignment I had frequent contact with him. Fort McClellan was a training center for both basic and advanced individual training and he was a role model for the young men and women who trained there. He was an ideal role model who displayed both humility and pride; certainly not self-pride, but proud to be an American soldier. He always downplayed his heroism by stating that any soldier would have done the same thing given the opportunity. Your fellow soldiers and the country will miss you.
